Cabinet Greenlights Noida Metro Aqua Line Extension to Strengthen NCR Urban Links

The Union Cabinet has given its official approval for the extension of the Noida Metro Aqua Line, a significant infrastructure project designed to bolster urban connectivity in the National Capital Region (NCR). This expansion will stretch the metro line from Botanical Garden to Noida Sector 142, targeting one of the region's fastest-growing hubs for manufacturing and services.

Project Details and Implementation Timeline

According to cabinet minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Noida Metro Rail Corporation Limited (NMRC) will oversee the implementation of this project. The extension will add 11.6 kilometers to the existing metro network, featuring eight new elevated stations. The total cost has been estimated at Rs 2,254 crore, with an anticipated completion timeline of four years.

Enhanced Multi-Modal Connectivity and Regional Impact

Botanical Garden station is set to become a crucial interchange point, linking the Noida Metro Aqua Line with the Delhi Metro's Magenta Line and Blue Line. This integration will significantly improve multi-modal connectivity for commuters traveling between Delhi, Noida, and Greater Noida, facilitating smoother and more efficient transit options.

Upon completion, the total metro network across Noida and Greater Noida is projected to exceed 61 kilometers. This expansion is expected to:

  • Enhance last-mile connectivity for residents and workers.
  • Support ongoing urban and industrial expansion in the region.
  • Boost economic growth by improving access to key business and residential areas.

The move underscores the government's commitment to developing robust public transportation infrastructure to meet the demands of a rapidly urbanizing NCR, aiming to reduce traffic congestion and promote sustainable urban development.
