Nalgonda Set for Major Smart City Transformation
Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy made a significant announcement on Saturday. He declared that Nalgonda will be developed as a Smart City. This ambitious plan leverages the town's recent upgrade to a municipal corporation status.
Massive Financial Commitment for Development
Addressing a public gathering in Nalgonda, Minister Komatireddy revealed impressive financial details. He stated that the government has already spent nearly Rs 2,000 crore on the town's development over the past two years. Furthermore, he emphasized the government's readiness to mobilize an additional Rs 2,000 crore if required. This substantial investment aims to meet the growing aspirations of Nalgonda's residents.
The minister laid foundation stones for development works worth Rs 18.70 crore at the Nalgonda municipal corporation. He expressed gratitude to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for upgrading Nalgonda into a municipal corporation. This crucial move enables direct central funding and faster execution of urban projects.
Key Infrastructure Projects Underway
Minister Komatireddy outlined a comprehensive series of major infrastructure initiatives currently in progress. These projects span various essential urban services and facilities.
Water and Sanitation Projects:
- Underground drainage works and construction of a new Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) under AMRUT-2 at a cost of Rs 216 crore.
- Strengthening of drinking water supply with Rs 56.75 crore, including construction of 12 new water tanks and extensive pipeline networks.
Road and Drainage Developments:
- Internal roads and drainage works progressing with Rs 53 crore from TUFIDC funds.
- Utilization of Rs 109 crore from SDF funds for flood canals, cremation grounds, and additional internal roads.
Major Road Construction Initiatives:
- A Rs 545 crore bypass road project currently in progress.
- Roads and drains from Panagallu Chaya Someshwara Temple to SLBC Colony with an investment of Rs 565 crore.
- The SLBC Medical College–Addanki road development costing Rs 260 crore.
Several other Bituminous Topping (BT) roads and double-lane roads are nearing completion. Many of these projects have already crossed the 70% completion mark, indicating significant progress.
Vision for Future Development
The minister emphasized that Nalgonda's development will be on par with Hyderabad. The goal is to ensure large-scale infrastructure expansion that transforms the town into a modern urban center. The municipal corporation status provides the necessary administrative framework for this transformation.
