Madhya Pradesh Government Unveils Bonus Scheme to Boost Pulses Production
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced on Friday that the Madhya Pradesh government is formulating a bonus scheme to promote the production of masoor (lentils) and urad (black gram). This initiative aims to strengthen pulses output and expand agriculture-based industries across the state.
Incentives and Support for Farmers and Industries
Addressing the inaugural session of the three-day Green Expo on food processing and machinery, organized by the All India Dal Mill Association in Indore, Yadav detailed the government's plans. He stated that the administration has already removed taxes on tuar (pigeon pea) and is finalizing measures to increase the cultivation of urad and masoor.
"Our government is going to make a plan to give a bonus to increase production of lentils and urad in the country," Yadav declared. He emphasized that farmers and processing industries would receive comprehensive support, including access to modern machinery, infrastructure development, and assistance in establishing industrial units to enhance value addition.
Government Commitment to Agricultural Growth
Yadav reassured stakeholders of the government's unwavering support. "The government stands with you. Farmers should get the right price for their produce," he said. He highlighted efforts to develop food parks in every district, offering all facilities available in government-run food parks to foster private investment.
The Chief Minister outlined a new development model that integrates farmers, industry, and trade, inviting investors to set up private grain markets and food parks. He underscored Madhya Pradesh's agricultural prowess, noting that the state has emerged as the food basket of India, ranking second nationally in foodgrain production and leading in crops such as wheat, gram, masoor, soybean, and oilseeds.
Economic Impact and Future Roadmap
Agriculture contributes approximately 39 percent to Madhya Pradesh's GDP, with sectoral growth exceeding 16 percent. The government is actively promoting dairy and pulses production as part of its economic strategy. Yadav revealed a five-year roadmap for farmers and agri-industries, alongside plans to double the state budget within five years while maintaining a growth trajectory of around 15 percent.
Under the "Kisan Kalyan Varsh-2026" initiative, multiple programs are being implemented to enhance farmer incomes and boost rural employment. The government is offering concessions in land, electricity, water, and taxes, along with labor incentives of up to Rs 5,000 per worker per month to encourage industrial establishment.
Infrastructure and Export Enhancements
Yadav pointed to infrastructure projects like the Indore-Manmad rail project, improved air cargo facilities, and enhanced road-rail connectivity as key drivers for boosting agricultural exports. He appealed to investors to invest in Madhya Pradesh, generate employment, and help increase farmers' income through agriculture-based industries and food parks developed in every district.
