Maharashtra Government Allocates Rs 1.20 Crore for Nagpur Haj House Renovation
The Minority Development Department of Maharashtra has sanctioned and released a significant sum of Rs 1.20 crore for comprehensive repair and beautification works at the Nagpur Haj House. This allocation was formalized through a government resolution issued on February 17, marking a crucial step in enhancing the facility's infrastructure.
Funds to Initiate Tender Process for Structural Improvements
The sanctioned amount is designated to kickstart the tender process for a range of essential works. These include structural repairs, routine maintenance, and the development of key facilities. Specific focus areas encompass the improvement of the area in front of the building and the enhancement of parking arrangements to better accommodate pilgrims and visitors.
Nagpur Haj House: A Vital Transit Hub for Pilgrims
Operational since 2012, the Nagpur Haj House serves as a critical transit and training facility for Haj pilgrims from the region. Annually, between 1,000 and 1,500 pilgrims depart from Nagpur, utilizing the building for temporary accommodation and essential pre-departure orientation sessions. The government has emphasized that maintaining this facility is paramount to ensuring safe, secure, and convenient arrangements for all pilgrims undertaking this significant journey.
Financial Allocation and Administrative Oversight
The released funds constitute 10% of the total approved project cost and have been disbursed in strict adherence to the financial norms established for the 2025-26 fiscal year. The district collector has been entrusted with the funds, acting as the controlling authority. Authorized officials will oversee the withdrawal and disbursement processes to ensure proper financial management.
The government resolution explicitly mandates that the grant must be utilized exclusively for the approved purposes within the current financial year. Furthermore, Public Works Department authorities are required to submit detailed utilisation certificates and comprehensive expenditure reports within the stipulated deadlines to ensure transparency and accountability.
Addressing Long-Standing Infrastructure Concerns
Over recent years, users of the Nagpur Haj House have consistently raised concerns regarding deteriorating infrastructure, highlighting the urgent need for repairs. Government officials have confirmed that the newly sanctioned works are specifically designed to address these long-pending issues. The project aims to significantly improve basic amenities, thereby enhancing the overall experience and safety for pilgrims utilizing the facility.
This proactive initiative by the Maharashtra government underscores its commitment to supporting minority welfare and ensuring that essential pilgrimage infrastructure is maintained to the highest standards, facilitating a smoother and more dignified journey for Haj pilgrims from the region.
