Central Government Allocates 3,744 Kilolitres of Kerosene to Maharashtra for Household Fuel Security
In a significant move to safeguard household fuel supplies, the central government has allocated a temporary quota of 3,744 kilolitres of kerosene to Maharashtra. This allocation aims to ensure fuel availability for families who may encounter difficulties accessing LPG cylinders amid the prevailing geopolitical situation. The announcement was made by Nashik Collector Ayush Prasad in an official release issued on Thursday.
Distribution Priority and Eligibility Criteria
According to the detailed release, each eligible family will be provided with three litres of kerosene to help them manage any potential LPG shortage. The distribution framework prioritizes specific beneficiary groups while maintaining inclusivity for other households.
- Priority Beneficiaries: Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) and Priority Household (PHH) ration card holders will receive first preference in the kerosene distribution process.
- Additional Eligibility: Families without ration cards will also be eligible to receive kerosene upon producing a domicile certificate issued by local authorities, ensuring broader access to this essential fuel.
District-Wise Allocation Breakdown
The substantial state quota has been meticulously distributed across Maharashtra's districts, with Nashik receiving the highest allocation. The detailed breakdown reveals the following allocations:
- Nashik: 228 kilolitres (highest allocation in the state)
- Ahilyanagar: 216 kilolitres
- Pune Rural: 204 kilolitres
- Jalgaon, Kolhapur, and Nanded: 156 kilolitres each
- Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: 144 kilolitres
This strategic distribution ensures that regions with higher population densities or greater vulnerability receive adequate fuel supplies.
Logistics and Implementation Details
The administration has outlined comprehensive logistics for the kerosene distribution program. Nineteen specialized tankers have been allocated specifically for transporting the fuel across the state. Distribution will be carried out through wholesale and retail kerosene dealers registered with respective district supply offices, ensuring an organized and regulated supply chain.
Collector Prasad emphasized that details regarding the distribution mechanism and the price at which kerosene will be sold to consumers will be announced shortly. This transparency aims to prevent confusion and ensure smooth implementation of the relief measure.
Clarification on LPG Availability and Rumour Control
Simultaneously, the district administration issued a crucial clarification regarding domestic LPG supplies. Officials stressed that there is currently no shortage of LPG for domestic use in the region. The release specifically urged residents not to believe rumours about LPG scarcity that have led to unnecessary long queues outside distribution centres.
"Oil marketing company officials are actively ensuring regular supply and timely delivery of LPG cylinders to consumers. There is no need for consumers to visit LPG distributors, as supplies are completely normal in the district," Collector Prasad added in his statement.
This dual approach—providing kerosene as a precautionary measure while reassuring citizens about existing LPG supplies—demonstrates the administration's comprehensive strategy to maintain fuel security during global uncertainties.
