Goa Horticulture Corporation on Track to Shatter Vegetable Procurement Records

The Goa State Horticultural Corporation Ltd (GSHCL) is poised to achieve unprecedented success under its Promotion of Vegetable with Assured Market scheme, with current fiscal year performance indicators suggesting it will surpass all previous benchmarks.

Current Figures Show Strong Momentum

According to official data released by the corporation, procurement activities for the 2025–26 financial year have already reached impressive levels. As of December 2025, the corporation has procured 1,399.8 tonnes of vegetables from local farmers, with disbursements totaling Rs 517.8 lakh in payments to agricultural producers.

These numbers become particularly significant when compared to the previous year's record performance. During the 2024–25 fiscal year, GSHCL achieved its highest annual procurement to date at 1,662.4 tonnes of vegetables, with farmer payments reaching Rs 684.2 lakh.

Projected Growth and Scheme Objectives

With three months of data still to be added to the current fiscal year's totals, officials express confidence that both procurement volumes and farmer payouts will exceed last year's record numbers. This anticipated growth represents a significant achievement for the state's agricultural sector.

"The Promotion of Vegetable with Assured Market scheme was specifically designed to provide farmers with guaranteed market access and stable returns, thereby reducing their dependence on fluctuating open markets," explained GSHCL Managing Director Chandrahas Desai. "By directly procuring vegetables from agricultural producers, we ensure that farmers receive timely payments and fair pricing for their produce, creating a more sustainable agricultural ecosystem."

Historical Performance and Growth Trajectory

The scheme's implementation has shown remarkable progress since its inception:

  • 2019–20: 965.6 tonnes procured, Rs 414.8 lakh disbursed
  • 2020–21: 1,121.8 tonnes procured, Rs 406.6 lakh disbursed
  • 2021–22: 920.6 tonnes procured, Rs 323.3 lakh disbursed
  • 2022–23: 1,091.1 tonnes procured, Rs 433.7 lakh disbursed
  • 2023–24: 1,509.1 tonnes procured, Rs 594.6 lakh disbursed
  • 2024–25: 1,662.4 tonnes procured, Rs 684.2 lakh disbursed
  • 2025–26 (till Dec): 1,399.8 tonnes procured, Rs 517.8 lakh disbursed

Despite some fluctuations in the early years, the overall trajectory has been strongly upward, with the most significant growth occurring in the 2023–24 fiscal year when procurement surged by approximately 38% compared to the previous year.

Broader Implications for Agricultural Development

The consistent growth in procurement volumes and farmer payments under this scheme demonstrates its effectiveness in supporting Goa's agricultural community. By providing assured markets and stable returns, the initiative helps mitigate the risks farmers typically face in volatile agricultural markets.

This approach not only benefits individual farmers through improved financial security but also contributes to food security and agricultural sustainability in the region. The anticipated record-breaking performance in the current fiscal year suggests the scheme is gaining momentum and delivering increasingly significant results for Goa's agricultural sector.
