In response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent appeal for austerity measures, the chief ministers of Delhi and Madhya Pradesh have taken steps to limit the use of official vehicles. The move aims to reduce government expenditure and promote fiscal responsibility.
Delhi Chief Minister's Directive
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has instructed all ministers and senior officials to minimize the use of official vehicles for personal purposes. The directive emphasizes that vehicles should be used only for official work, and unnecessary trips are to be avoided. This initiative is expected to save millions of rupees annually.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister's Action
Similarly, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has announced a reduction in the number of official vehicles allocated to his cabinet colleagues. He has also urged officials to carpool and use public transport where feasible. The state government aims to cut fuel and maintenance costs by 20%.
Both leaders have cited the need to set an example for the public and other government officials. The austerity drive aligns with the central government's call for prudent spending amid economic challenges. Citizens have welcomed the move, hoping it will lead to more efficient use of public funds.
