Chatra District Takes Major Step Towards Organic Farming with New Resource Centre

In a significant move to develop Chatra as an organic district, Deputy Commissioner Kirtishiree G inaugurated a new organic resource centre at Karma village in the Mayurhand block on Thursday. This initiative marks a crucial step in promoting sustainable agricultural practices and empowering local women through livelihood generation opportunities.

Empowering Women Through Sustainable Agriculture

Addressing the gathering during the inauguration ceremony, Deputy Commissioner Kirtishiree G emphasized that the organic resource centre represents a vital initiative towards making women self-reliant and economically independent. She highlighted the centre's role in strengthening women's groups through comprehensive training programs.

The DC stated, "Women's groups will be further strengthened through specialized training on various government schemes, including the mid-day meal programme, to create sustainable employment opportunities. This model will be replicated across the entire district as part of our vision to establish Chatra as a fully organic district."

Comprehensive Organic Production Facility

Following the formal inauguration, the Deputy Commissioner conducted a thorough inspection of the newly established centre. She reviewed the diverse range of organic products being prepared at the facility, which includes:

  • Bio-fertilisers for soil enrichment
  • Aloe vera juice for agricultural and health applications
  • Jeevamrit, a traditional organic preparation
  • Vermicompost for natural soil conditioning
  • Plant-based pesticides for eco-friendly pest control

Benefits of Organic Farming Practices

Members of the women's group operating the centre explained the multiple advantages of organic farming methods. They emphasized that using organic manure significantly improves soil fertility while reducing farmers' dependence on chemical fertilisers. This approach not only promotes environmental sustainability but also lowers input costs for agricultural practitioners, making farming more economically viable.

The organic resource centre represents a holistic approach to rural development, combining agricultural innovation with women's empowerment. By providing training, resources, and market access for organic products, the initiative aims to transform Chatra's agricultural landscape while creating sustainable livelihood opportunities for women across the district.
