Patna: Thousands of female students who successfully completed their bachelor's degree examinations from various universities in Bihar during the last academic session are at risk of losing the state government's incentive of Rs 50,000. This potential deprivation stems from the alleged negligence of university authorities in uploading the required data onto the designated portal.
Deadline Approaching
Despite repeated directives from the state higher education department, several universities have failed to upload the data of female graduates onto the Samarth portal. The deadline for this data submission is May 30. Sources indicate that the uploading process across all 17 universities is significantly behind schedule, even though strict deadlines were issued.
Governor's Directives
Governor-cum-Chancellor Syed Ata Hasnain has been consistently urging vice-chancellors to implement all modules of the Samarth portal without further delay, emphasizing the importance of this task for the benefit of students.
Scheme Details
The higher education department had previously announced that all women who passed their graduation examinations from state universities up to December 2025 are eligible to receive Rs 50,000 each under the 'Mukhyamantri Kanya Utthan Yojana'. Official estimates suggest that over 1.5 lakh female graduates qualify for this incentive. However, many of these eligible candidates may be deprived of the funds because their respective universities have not uploaded their data.
Impact on Beneficiaries
Higher Education Director Navin Kumar Agrawal stated that the delay in data upload will directly affect the processing of graduation scholarships, causing students to experience longer waiting periods before they can apply for schemes like the Rs 50,000 graduation incentive. University registrars and examination controllers have been instructed to upload all examination results published up to December of the previous year, along with details of eligible female graduates, onto the Samarth portal within the stipulated timeframe. This would ensure timely processing and deposit of the incentive amount into beneficiaries' accounts. However, Agrawal expressed regret that many universities have yet to comply.
Universities Under the Scheme
The universities covered under this scheme include Patna, Patliputra, B N Mandal, BRA Bihar, Jaya Prakash, L N Mithila, Munger, Purnia, T M Bhagalpur, Veer Kuar Singh, KSD Sanskrit, Magadh, Maulana Mazharul Haq Arabic and Persian, Nalanda Open, Aryabhatta Knowledge, and Chanakya National Law universities, as well as the Chandragupt Institute of Management Patna.
