In a significant step towards sustainable energy, approximately 200 households in Matikhala, a coastal village located in the Chhatrapur block of Ganjam district, have been successfully powered by solar energy. This initiative is part of the Central Government's Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, which aims to promote renewable energy adoption across India.
Inauguration and Key Stakeholders
The solar-powered village was officially inaugurated on Thursday by Collector V. Keerthi Vasan and MLA Krushna Chandra Nayak. The event was attended by A.K. Garg, the Chief Executive Officer of Tata Power Southern Odisha Distribution Limited (TPSODL), highlighting the collaborative effort between government authorities and the private sector.
Details of the Solar Installation
Under this scheme, each beneficiary has installed a 1 KW solar system on their rooftop. This setup is expected to substantially reduce electricity expenses for residents while contributing to a cleaner environment. The installation follows the Utility-Led Aggregation (ULA) model, launched by the discom last year, which simplifies the process for households.
