Andhra Pradesh Government to Launch Electric Bus Services for New Bhogapuram Airport

The Andhra Pradesh state government has announced plans to operate a fleet of electric buses to the newly constructed Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport at Bhogapuram. This initiative is designed to provide enhanced services and a hassle-free journey for passengers, while significantly reducing travel time from various parts of North Andhra to the airport.

Infrastructure and Planning for E-Bus Operations

In response to numerous representations from organizations such as the Rushikonda IT Parks Association and the Air Travellers' Association, the government has prioritized this special facility. The Road Transport Corporation (RTC) management is actively preparing infrastructure, including an e-bus complex at Simhachalam and charging stations at Bhogapuram and Gajuwaka. A 4-acre land parcel at Simhapuri Colony in the Simhachalam area is being developed to serve as the central hub for these electric buses.

Fleet Allocation and Operational Details

The central government is set to provide over 500 buses to Andhra Pradesh by the end of June, with approximately 100 of these allocated to Visakhapatnam. These buses will operate routes from Visakhapatnam, Anakapalli, Vizianagaram, and Srikakulam to the Bhogapuram Airport, which is scheduled to be commissioned in the first week of July. Union Minister for Civil Aviation Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu has indicated that the airport is likely to open on July 5.

The introduction of these air-conditioned e-buses is expected to alleviate the financial burden on passengers, who currently face high taxi fares for airport travel. Most of the buses assigned to Visakhapatnam will be managed from the Simhachalam bus depot, and RTC officials are currently finalizing plans for specific service routes and schedules.

Additional Developments and Future Prospects

RTC officials are reportedly conducting surveys to assess flight availability and optimize bus services accordingly. Furthermore, seven key roads from Visakhapatnam are nearing completion, which will facilitate smoother operations for the new bus fleet. This comprehensive approach aims to integrate public transport with the upcoming airport, promoting sustainable travel and improving connectivity in the region.

The deployment of electric buses aligns with broader environmental and efficiency goals, offering a modern solution for airport commuters while supporting the state's green initiatives. As preparations advance, this project is poised to transform transportation dynamics in North Andhra, ensuring a seamless and cost-effective journey for air travelers.
