Canacona: The market road in Chaudi, Canacona, has been severely affected by waterlogging after recent rainfall washed out ongoing road repairs. This road is a vital hub for tribal communities who sell forest produce, but they are now forced to conduct their business on the dirty roadside along the market approach road due to the poor conditions.
Residents Demand Permanent Repairs
Residents and local representatives have been persistently demanding permanent repairs to this approach road. They emphasize that proper maintenance is essential, as the market is regularly visited by a large number of people from surrounding areas.
Plastic Waste and Stray Cattle Add to Woes
Apart from waterlogging, the accumulation of plastic waste along the roadside has become a major concern for residents. Former chairperson of the Canacona municipality, Rangraj Gaonkar, highlighted that the area near the bus stand is plagued by a stray-cattle menace, which causes frequent traffic disruptions and poses risks to motorists.
Vendors have resorted to selling outside the vegetable market due to the lack of cleanliness inside, resulting in significant revenue loss for the municipal council. Former Canacona municipality chairperson, Santosh Kalgo Gaonkar, stated that authorities have neglected the issue of water stagnation in the market for too long, exacerbating the problems faced by both vendors and customers.
The situation underscores the urgent need for comprehensive infrastructure improvements and waste management measures to restore normalcy to this important commercial area.
