UPSRTC to Deploy AI-Powered Depot Management System for Enhanced Safety and Efficiency
UPSRTC Implements AI Depot System for Modern Transport

UPSRTC Embraces AI for Comprehensive Depot Modernization

The Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) is set to revolutionize its operations with the implementation of an AI-enabled Integrated Depot Management System (IDMS). This ambitious initiative aims to significantly enhance passenger safety, improve operational transparency, and modernize depot management across the state's extensive public transport network.

Project Details and Funding

Under the Centre's Intelligent Transport System (ITS) scheme, the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has sanctioned over Rs 30 crore for this transformative project. The implementation period is scheduled for two years, covering 115 UPSRTC depots that manage a fleet of more than 14,000 buses. This substantial investment underscores the government's commitment to upgrading public transportation infrastructure through technological innovation.

Complete Digitization of Depot Operations

According to GM (IT) Yazuvendra Kumar of UPSRTC, the project focuses on achieving complete digitization of depot operations. This comprehensive approach encompasses fleet operations, fuel management, finance, and inventory management. Currently, depot managers maintain daily registers for duty allotment, bus availability, and expenditure tracking—a manual process that will be replaced by real-time digital systems.

The new AI-driven system will require depot managers to maintain and upload every operational record online in real time, eliminating the inefficiencies of paper-based documentation and creating a transparent, auditable framework for all depot activities.

Expected Benefits and Advantages

The implementation of the Integrated Depot Management System promises numerous benefits for both the transport corporation and passengers:

  • Enhanced passenger safety and comfort through better managed operations
  • Creation of paperless depots with reduced administrative burden
  • Transparent and auditable systems for improved accountability
  • Data-driven decision-making capabilities for operational optimization
  • Improved revenue transparency and financial management
  • Lower maintenance costs through predictive analytics
  • Reduced fuel pilferage and wastage through better monitoring
  • Fuel optimization leading to reduced emissions and environmental benefits

Positioning Uttar Pradesh as a Transport Innovation Leader

UPSRTC officials emphasize that this initiative will position the corporation among the first state transport undertakings in India to implement an AI-driven depot management framework at such a comprehensive scale. This strategic move establishes Uttar Pradesh as a pioneering leader in smart public transport modernization, setting a benchmark for other states to follow in leveraging artificial intelligence for public service enhancement.

The integration of artificial intelligence into depot management represents a significant leap forward in public transportation administration, promising to transform how one of India's largest state transport corporations operates and serves millions of passengers daily.
