In a significant move aimed at enhancing the travel experience for millions, the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) has rolled out a series of passenger-centric facilities under the state government's 'Citizen First Initiative'. The initiative will see the establishment of comprehensive help desks and the installation of modern signage across bus stations in the state.
What the New Help Desks Will Offer
Under the directive of Minister of State for Transport (Independent Charge) Dayashankar Singh, dedicated help desks will be set up at the entrance of bus stations. These desks are designed to be a one-stop solution for passenger queries and needs. Travelers can access detailed fare lists, updated timetables, and platform information directly from these counters. Furthermore, the corporation will also provide dedicated complaint and relief desks to address grievances promptly, ensuring a smoother resolution process.
Minister Singh has also mandated the installation of clear, bilingual signboards at all stations. These signboards, in Hindi and English, will display crucial information such as bus routes, platform numbers, locations of ticket counters, restrooms, and exits, making navigation easier for everyone.
A Push for Modernization and Convenience
This overhaul is part of a broader vision to modernize Uttar Pradesh's public transport infrastructure. "Passenger convenience and innovation are the primary priorities of the transport corporation, including policy development for easy, safe, and upgraded passenger amenities," stated Minister Dayashankar Singh.
He has directed officials to ensure the effective implementation of all passenger-oriented services, with a strong focus on cleanliness, security, and efficient operational systems at bus stations. The scale of this initiative is vast, as UPSRTC currently operates 280 bus stations serving approximately 55 crore passengers every year.
Key Amenities Being Introduced
The 'Citizen First Initiative' encompasses a wide range of upgrades beyond the help desks. Some of the key features include:
- Digital Display Boards: Installation of digital boards showing real-time bus arrival and departure information.
- Accessibility Features: Provision of ramps and wheelchairs to assist disabled passengers.
- Enhanced Safety: Setting up of police assistance centres within stations to ensure passenger safety.
- Health and Hygiene: Ensuring adequate toilet facilities and establishing medical first-aid centres for emergencies.
These comprehensive measures signal a committed shift towards making public transport in Uttar Pradesh more user-friendly, transparent, and accessible for its colossal ridership. The focus on digital information and physical amenities aims to reduce travel anxiety and build a more reliable and pleasant commuting ecosystem.
