TTD Launches QR Code Footwear System in Tirumala

Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams has launched a new QR code-based footwear management system in Tirumala. This initiative aims to provide a permanent solution to the persistent problem of footwear handling for pilgrims visiting the holy hill.

Inauguration and Implementation

TTD Additional EO Ch Venkaiah Chowdary inaugurated the system on Tuesday morning. The event took place at the Matrusri Tarigonda Vengamamba Annaprasadam Complex in Tirumala. Chowdary highlighted that the system addresses a long-standing issue faced by devotees regarding footwear management.

How the QR Code System Works

When pilgrims deposit their footwear at designated counters, they receive a QR code slip. This slip contains detailed information such as the number of items, size, rack number, box number, and storage location. Upon returning, pilgrims simply scan the slip to locate their footwear quickly and without hassle.

Pilot Project and Expansion

The system was first tested as a pilot project at Vaikuntha Queue Complex-2. After receiving positive feedback, TTD expanded it to eight counters across various locations in Tirumala. This expansion ensures wider accessibility for all pilgrims.

Significant Improvements in Footwear Retrieval

Chowdary reported a dramatic increase in footwear collection rates. With the new system, about 99% of pilgrims now retrieve their footwear. Previously, only 70 to 80% managed to do so due to piles of mixed-up footwear causing confusion and loss.

Corporate Social Responsibility Initiative

Coromandel International Limited fully implemented this innovative project as part of its CSR activities. Senior Vice President Dr K Satyanarayana and other TTD officials were present at the inauguration, underscoring the collaborative effort behind this initiative.

Benefits for Pilgrim Convenience and Cleanliness

The QR code system not only enhances pilgrim convenience but also promotes cleanliness in Tirumala. Chowdary emphasized that this practice sets a benchmark in temple administration across the country. He urged pilgrims to use only the designated counters for depositing footwear, helping maintain the sanctity and tidiness of the holy site.

This move by TTD represents a significant step forward in leveraging technology for better pilgrim management and environmental upkeep.
