Telangana Govt Implements Employee Health Scheme with Unions

The state government of Telangana has decided to implement the Employees Health Scheme (EHS) through a dedicated Employee Health Care Trust. This trust will include six representatives from employee unions and two representatives of pensioners, ensuring stakeholder participation in the administration of the scheme. Additionally, the government has decided to appoint a serving government employee as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the trust. A formal Government Order (GO) regarding the composition of the trust committee is expected to be released soon.

Review Meeting Scheduled

Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy is expected to hold a review meeting on Monday to discuss the implementation of the EHS. As part of the scheme, the state government is preparing to issue digital health cards to employees, pensioners, and their eligible family members. The EHS is designed to provide cashless medical treatment to government employees and pensioners through a network of empanelled hospitals.

Salary Deduction for EHS

On Sunday, the state government deducted 1.5% of the basic pay from the salaries of government employees towards the EHS. Some unions criticized this deduction, noting that health cards have not yet been issued. However, Eluri Sreenivasa Rao, secretary general of the government employees Joint Action Committee (JAC), told the Times of India that both the government and employees would each contribute Rs 44 crore every month towards EHS cashless treatment. He stated, "This is the agreement signed between the JAC and the government. The government has said that the EHS will be implemented from June, and as a result, the employees' monthly contribution has been deducted from their salaries."
