Tamil Nadu Minister for Backward Classes Welfare and Coimbatore North MLA V Sampath Kumar conducted a surprise inspection at the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) in the early hours of Saturday, spending more than two hours reviewing maintenance, security, and healthcare services. The inspection aimed at ensuring accountability and efficiency in hospital operations, and the minister carried it out without the accompaniment of senior officials.
Inspection Details
The inspection continued until around 3 am, just two days after the minister's earlier visit to CMCH, during which several complaints and allegations regarding administrative functioning were reportedly brought to his notice. During the latest inspection, Sampath Kumar focused on the performance of private agencies entrusted with maintenance and security operations on the hospital premises.
Focus on Outsourced Agencies
The minister examined duty rosters and attendance registers to verify whether contract employees were present at their assigned posts and whether attendance records were being maintained accurately. He assessed the quality of services delivered by the outsourced agencies and scrutinised their compliance with contractual responsibilities. Sources said he spent considerable time reviewing workforce deployment and operational procedures to ensure effective service delivery.
Night Shift Review
Apart from inspecting maintenance and security arrangements, the minister visited wards and departments functioning during the night shift. He reviewed the availability of medical services, interacted with staff members on duty, and observed patient care activities in various sections of the hospital, including the outpatient and emergency units.
The surprise visit underscores the government's commitment to improving public healthcare infrastructure and ensuring that outsourced services meet required standards. Further actions are expected based on the findings of the inspection.
