Khagaria's Rajendra Sarovar to Get Rs 9.50 Crore Revamp, New Look by 2028
Rs 9.5 Crore Master Plan for Khagaria's Rajendra Sarovar

In a significant move to revive a cherished public space, the Khagaria Nagar Parishad has prepared an ambitious Rs 9.50 crore master plan for the comprehensive renovation and beautification of Rajendra Sarovar. This historic pond and park, located on Gaushala Road in Khagaria town, is set for a major transformation aimed at restoring its former glory and providing modern amenities to residents.

From Glory to Neglect: The Story of Rajendra Sarovar

The park's journey began in 1989 when the then District Magistrate, Ajit Kumar, oversaw its initial development. The pond in Sanhauli village was transformed into a park at an estimated cost of Rs 4.20 lakh and was named Rajendra Sarovar in honour of India’s first President, Dr. Rajendra Prasad. It quickly became a popular hub for morning walks and leisure, attracting people from all walks of life.

The facility was initially well-equipped with street lights, dedicated walking tracks, boating facilities, and was maintained by gardeners and guards. However, over the years, the park fell into a state of disrepair. The boats vanished, lighting fixtures went missing, and with the withdrawal of maintenance staff, stray cattle began roaming freely. The once-vibrant Sarovar suffered due to prolonged neglect and lack of proper care from the authorities.

A New Dawn: The Rs 9.50 Crore Revival Plan

Addressing this decline, the Khagaria Nagar Parishad has now taken a decisive step. Chairperson Archana Kumari confirmed that a tender has been floated for the project's execution. "The Nagar Parishad has decided to give a facelift to the Sarovar and provide better amenities," she stated. The ambitious plan includes:

  • Installation of high mast lights for improved illumination.
  • Construction of new and improved walking tracks.
  • Reintroduction of boating facilities in the pond.
  • Building a boundary wall on all sides to secure the area.

The project timeline is set, with work scheduled to commence in the 2026-2027 financial year. The authorities aim to complete the entire renovation and hand over the revitalised park to the public by the end of March 2028.

Community Welcomes the Restoration Initiative

The decision has been met with approval from local residents and activists who have long witnessed the park's deterioration. Social activist Subhash Chandra Joshi welcomed the Nagar Parishad's move, expressing optimism about the project's impact. "The newly developed Sarovar will prove to be a centre of relaxation for the residents of the area, especially for senior citizens," he remarked.

This revival project represents a crucial investment in Khagaria's public infrastructure and green spaces. It promises not only to reclaim a piece of the town's heritage but also to create a modern, accessible, and serene environment for community gatherings, health, and recreation for years to come.
