Delhi PWD Allocates Over Rs 2 Crore for South Delhi FOB, Subway Upkeep in 2025-26
Rs 2 Crore for South Delhi Footbridge, Subway Maintenance

The Public Works Department (PWD) in Delhi has set aside a significant budget exceeding Rs 2 crore for the upcoming 2025–26 financial year. This fund is dedicated to bolstering the maintenance and safety of key pedestrian infrastructure across south and south-east Delhi.

Comprehensive Plan for Pedestrian Safety and Cleanliness

The project, to be executed by the South-Eastern Roads (SER) division, aims to transform the state of foot overbridges (FOBs) and subways. The primary goals are to improve cleanliness, safety, and overall upkeep for the millions of pedestrians using these facilities daily. An appointed contractor will manage end-to-end maintenance, which includes providing all necessary equipment, machinery, materials, and manpower.

Detailed Maintenance Schedule and Quality Standards

The maintenance plan is extensive and follows a strict quality schedule to ensure high standards of hygiene and safety. Key responsibilities of the contractor include:

  • Operation and annual maintenance of lifts.
  • Civil and electrical repairs across all structures.
  • Provision of watch and ward (security) services.
  • Comprehensive housekeeping as per detailed guidelines.

Daily routine upkeep will involve sweeping and mopping of all floors and staircases, along with regular cleaning of handrails and lift interiors.

Deep Cleaning and Specialized Upkeep Procedures

Beyond daily chores, a rigorous deep-cleaning regimen is part of the contract. The roofs of FOBs and subways will be cleaned twice every month using manlifts and pressure washers to remove accumulated dust, dry leaves, and debris. Similarly, ceilings, side walls, and other exposed surfaces will undergo thorough cleaning on a fortnightly basis.

Furthermore, floors will receive deep cleaning at least twice a month through specialized chemical treatment and high-pressure washing. This focused approach is expected to significantly elevate the cleanliness and operational efficiency of these vital public structures, making them more user-friendly and safer for Delhi's residents.
