Rs 1,078 Cr Central Fund for Gujarat Road Projects

The Union government has given a significant financial push to upgrade Gujarat's state-managed road network, approving a substantial grant of Rs 1,078 crore from the Central Road Infrastructure Fund. The funds, sanctioned for a total of 41 distinct projects, were finalized following a high-level meeting in Gandhinagar.

High-Level Meeting Paves the Way for Funding

The crucial approval was the direct result of a meeting held on November 25, 2025, between Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari. The discussion, centered on improving connectivity and infrastructure across the state, led to the sanctioning of funds for projects spanning a combined length of 564.57 kilometers.

Breakdown of Projects and Fund Allocation

The sanctioned amount will be utilized for a comprehensive set of works including road widening, strengthening, resurfacing, and critical structural improvements. The allocation is strategically divided to address different infrastructure needs.

A major chunk of the funds, Rs 636 crore, is earmarked for 11 road-widening projects on state highways. These projects will cover 229.20 kilometers across numerous districts, enhancing capacity and safety. The districts set to benefit from this widening initiative include:

  • Patan
  • Kutch
  • Banaskantha
  • Kheda
  • Mahisagar
  • Chhota Udepur
  • Valsad
  • Amreli
  • Jamnagar
  • Vadodara

Strengthening and Structural Works

For the vital work of strengthening and resurfacing existing roads, Rs 408.33 crore has been allocated. This will finance 23 projects covering 335.37 kilometres in key districts such as Ahmedabad, Anand, Aravalli, Tapi, Navsari, Devbhoomi Dwarka, Surendranagar, Surat, and Jamnagar, among others.

Furthermore, Rs 33.80 crore has been approved specifically for seven structural projects. These essential works will focus on districts including Tapi, Surat, and Dang, addressing specific infrastructure challenges like bridges and overpasses.

Boosting Connectivity and Economic Growth

This massive infusion of central funds is expected to significantly upgrade Gujarat's secondary road network, improving intra-state connectivity, reducing travel time, and boosting logistical efficiency. Enhanced road infrastructure is a critical driver for economic development, facilitating smoother movement of goods and people. The widespread geographic distribution of the projects indicates a balanced approach to development, aiming to benefit both industrial corridors and rural areas across the state.
