Rajasthan Government Unveils Plans for Jaipur IT City, Inspired by Southern Tech Hubs

In a significant move to boost technological infrastructure, the Rajasthan government has announced the development of an IT City near Jaipur, as outlined in the state budget. This initiative aims to create a modern technology hub on the lines of successful models from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, including Visakhapatnam's data centre hub, Amaravati's Quantum Valley, and Hyderabad's HITEC City.

High-Level Meeting Directs Expedited Development

Chief Secretary V Srinivas, addressing a high-level meeting of the Urban Development and Housing (UDH) department on Saturday, emphasized the urgency of this project. The meeting focused on implementing budget announcements and studying best practices from other states to ensure the IT City adopts cutting-edge urban planning and innovation-based models.

Inspiration from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana

The decision draws direct inspiration from recent developments in southern India. On the same Saturday, Union Minister of State for Science and Technology, Jitendra Singh, and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu laid the foundation stone for Quantum Valley in Amaravati. Additionally, the Andhra Pradesh government is actively developing a data centre hub in Visakhapatnam, showcasing a commitment to technological advancement.

To gain firsthand insights, a team of Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) officials, led by former JDA commissioner P Anandhi, visited Hyderabad in July last year. Their mission was to study the development, operations, and maintenance of HITEC City, a renowned technology park that has become a benchmark for such projects.

Official Directives and Broader Discussions

According to a press release by JDA, Chief Secretary Srinivas instructed officials to expedite the development of the high-tech city near Jaipur. He directed them to thoroughly examine the models from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, focusing on adopting modern urban planning techniques, robust technological infrastructure, and innovation-driven frameworks to ensure the project's success.

The meeting also covered a range of other critical topics, including:

  • The status of budget announcements for the UDH department for the fiscal years 2024-25 and 2025-26.
  • Ongoing and planned road repair, renovation, and quality control works across the state.
  • Effective utilization of the CBUD app to streamline urban development processes.
  • Progress updates on master plans being prepared for various cities in Rajasthan.

This initiative marks a strategic step by the Rajasthan government to position Jaipur as a key player in India's technology landscape, leveraging lessons from established hubs to foster economic growth and innovation.
