The Punjab State Veterinary Inspectors Association (PSVIA), Ludhiana unit, has threatened to launch an agitation if the animal husbandry department fails to withdraw pending charge sheets against 14 veterinary inspectors within 15 days. If the government fails to act, the association will stage a symbolic protest outside the Directorate of Animal Husbandry on June 17.
Demands and Grievances
The association demands the immediate closure of departmental proceedings, noting that the affected employees continue to face severe mental stress and professional uncertainty despite being cleared. Association president Gurpreet Singh emphasized that a departmental probe conducted by a retired additional sessions judge had already exonerated the inspectors four months ago, finding them innocent and not responsible for the vaccine expiration.
He highlighted that the inspectors did not even hold the relevant posts or any additional charge at the time of the incident, making the continued pendency of the case a source of widespread resentment among state veterinary staff.
Background of the Dispute
The charge sheets are related to the expiration of vaccines, but the inspectors were cleared by an independent inquiry. The association argues that the prolonged proceedings are unjust and causing undue hardship. The protest aims to draw attention to the issue and pressure the department to resolve it quickly.
