In a move to ensure seamless service for vehicle owners, the Punjab government has transferred the responsibility for installing High Security Registration Plates (HSRP) to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM). This decision came into effect after the contract of the previous private firm expired earlier this month.
Immediate Action to Prevent Public Inconvenience
Punjab Transport Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar, in a written statement on Sunday, clarified the transition. The work was previously handled by M/s Agros Impex India Private Limited through an online process. However, the firm's tender validity concluded on January 8, 2026.
"To save the general public from inconvenience, Punjab government took immediate initiative," stated Bhullar. The state has entrusted the work to SIAM while continuing the same online procedure to guarantee uninterrupted service for citizens.
How to Apply for HSRP Online Now
Vehicle owners across Punjab can now apply for the mandatory plates through the official portal. "Vehicle owners can now apply online for installing HSRP on their vehicles through the SIAM/High Security Registration Plate portal, www.siam.in," the minister added.
He emphasized that the entire process is designed to be user-friendly and completely online. This allows vehicle owners to apply from the comfort of their homes without the need to visit Regional Transport Office (RTO) facilities repeatedly.
A Boost for Transparency and Ease of Living
Minister Bhullar highlighted the benefits of this government-led initiative. He stated that it would significantly reduce harassment for vehicle owners and free them from dependency on agents or middlemen. The direct online system is aimed at enhancing transparency and convenience.
Providing an update on the progress, the minister informed that HSRPs have already been installed on 64,24,336 vehicles in the state so far. He made a strong appeal to the remaining vehicle owners to utilize the prescribed online process and get the plates fitted at the earliest.
This proactive step is crucial for vehicle owners to avoid potential challans and other penalties for non-compliance with the HSRP mandate. The state government's intervention ensures the critical vehicle documentation process continues without a hitch.
