Prayagraj's Nawal Rai Pond Set for Major Transformation into Recreational Hub

The Prayagraj Municipal Corporation (PMC) has embarked on an ambitious project to revitalize the Nawal Rai pond located in the Kydganj area. This initiative aims to convert the existing water body into a contemporary picnic destination, thereby boosting urban tourism and offering residents a much-needed green recreational space within the city.

Substantial Budget and Comprehensive Development Plan

A significant budget of Rs 3.92 crore has been officially sanctioned for this extensive redevelopment project. The tender process has been successfully concluded, paving the way for the commencement of construction activities. The recreational space, sprawling across more than 1.5 hectares, is designed to cater to diverse age groups and interests.

Key features of the development include:

  • A dedicated playing area for children equipped with swings and various play equipment.
  • An open-air gym facility to promote fitness among visitors.
  • A large-scale plantation drive across the park premises to enhance greenery.
  • A specially designed selfie point at the main entrance to welcome and engage visitors.
  • Installation of benches and seating areas to provide comfortable resting spaces.
  • Deployment of security guards to ensure the safety and security of all visitors.

Environmental Restoration and Pollution Control Measures

Central to the project is the comprehensive restoration of the Nawal Rai pond itself. The invasive water hyacinth currently plaguing the water body will be systematically removed. Following this, extensive renovation work will be undertaken. Special arrangements will be implemented to prevent the inflow of polluted water into the pond, a critical step towards ensuring cleaner and healthier surroundings for the ecosystem and visitors alike.

Project Timeline and Expected Impact

Officials have projected that the entire development work will be completed within a timeframe of one year. Once operational, the revamped Nawal Rai pond site is anticipated to emerge as a major attraction for both local residents and tourists, significantly enhancing the city's recreational infrastructure.

Municipal Commissioner Sai Teja expressed strong confidence in the project's success. "I am confident that the revamped Nawal Rai pond site will soon emerge as one of the city's select picnic destinations," he stated. "It will offer a unique blend of recreation, greenery, and environmental conservation for the people of Prayagraj." This transformation represents a strategic investment in urban livability and sustainable tourism for the historic city.
