PMC Completes Drain Cleaning Ahead of Monsoon

The Prayagraj Municipal Corporation (PMC) has intensified its efforts to clean over 700 drains across the city in preparation for the monsoon season, aiming to prevent waterlogging. The cleaning operation is nearly complete, with the corporation deploying 2,769 laborers and a variety of small and large cleaning machines. More than Rs 8 crore was spent on this extensive exercise.

Areas Most Affected by Waterlogging

Localities such as Allahapur, Sohbatia Bagh, Tagore Town, Georgetown, Salori, Alopibagh, Bairahana, Bai Ka Bagh, and Kydganj are among the worst affected by waterlogging during the rainy season. The drain-cleaning campaign, which began in April with a budget exceeding Rs 8 crore, was scheduled for completion within two months. By the first week of June, the work is close to completion, though cleaning continues in some less-affected areas where the risk of waterlogging remains low.

Deployment of Workforce and Technology

A large workforce of municipal employees, along with robotic machines, was deployed for the cleaning exercise. Every rainy season, over a dozen neighborhoods in the city face waterlogging issues. Mayor Ganesh Kesharwani stated that the Municipal Corporation conducts drain cleaning before the onset of monsoon every year. Large drains are cleaned using robotic machines, while smaller ones are cleaned manually.
