PM Modi to New Recruits: Remember Past Govt Hurdles, Ensure Citizen Ease

Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a powerful virtual address to over 61,000 newly-recruited government personnel on Saturday, urging them to reflect on their own past experiences with bureaucratic hurdles and ensure that ordinary citizens do not face similar challenges during their service tenure.

Rozgar Mela Address Focuses on Citizen-Centric Governance

The Prime Minister was speaking at the 18th edition of the Rozgar Mela, which was organized across 45 different locations throughout the country. In his comprehensive address, Modi emphasized the critical role that these new recruits will play in shaping India's administrative landscape.

Personal Experience as a Guide for Public Service

PM Modi assigned a specific task to the fresh recruits, asking them to carefully recall their interactions with government offices over the past 5-7 years. "Recall, in the last 5-7 years, when and in what form have you had contact with government?" he asked. "Whether you had work in some government office, or interacted through some other medium and you faced trouble, felt some deficiency, or felt some irritation — just remember such things."

The Prime Minister further elaborated that these personal experiences should serve as a guiding principle for their future work. "Now you have to decide that those things which troubled you, sometimes troubled your parents, sometimes troubled your friends, and what used to pinch you, feel bad, or make you angry — now you will not let those difficulties happen to other citizens during your own tenure," he emphasized.

Economic Growth and Global Opportunities

During his address, PM Modi highlighted India's remarkable economic progress, noting that India is the only large economy in the world that has doubled its GDP in a decade. He pointed to increasing global confidence in the country, stating that "today, more than a hundred countries are investing in India."

The Prime Minister also discussed international agreements creating new avenues for Indian youth. "India is signing trade and mobility agreements with several countries. These trade agreements are bringing new opportunities for youth of the nation," he said, underscoring the expanding horizons for young professionals.

Reforms and Infrastructure Development

Modi highlighted his government's comprehensive reform agenda, mentioning that "the talk of India's 'Reform Express' is being discussed everywhere" and that every new recruit has a role to play in this transformative journey. He specifically mentioned:

  • Next-generation GST reforms that have benefited youth entrepreneurs and MSMEs
  • Labor reforms that have strengthened social security for workers and employees
  • Unprecedented investments in modern infrastructure creating employment across construction-related sectors
  • India's rapidly expanding startup ecosystem with nearly two lakh registered startups employing over 21 lakh youth

Ethical Governance and Citizen First Approach

The Prime Minister stressed that beyond policy reforms, ease of living and ease of doing business is strengthened by the honesty of government employees. He urged the young recruits to work with the motto 'Nagrik Devo Bhava' (Citizen is akin to God) while discharging their duties.

Modi emphasized that as part of the government machinery, these new personnel need to carry out small reforms at their level and must ensure that the maximum number of people benefit from their services. "Now you being a part of government need to carry out small reforms at your level and must ensure that the maximum number of people are benefited," he stated.

Rozgar Mela's Nationwide Impact

According to an official statement from the Prime Minister's Office, since its inception, more than 11 lakh recruitment letters have been issued through Rozgar Melas organized across the country. This massive employment drive represents a significant component of the government's job creation strategy and commitment to youth empowerment.

The Prime Minister's address combined practical guidance with visionary perspective, asking new government employees to draw from their personal experiences while contributing to India's ongoing transformation through ethical, citizen-centric service delivery.
