Panchkula Aims to Become Child Labour-Free District, DC Sets Strict Action Plan
Panchkula DC Launches Drive to Eliminate Child Labour

In a decisive move to protect children's rights, Panchkula's administration has launched a comprehensive campaign to eradicate child labour from the district. Deputy Commissioner Satpal Sharma has set an ambitious target to make Panchkula a child labour-free zone, emphasizing a sustained and coordinated approach.

Strict Directives for Vigilance and Enforcement

The directive was issued during a crucial meeting of the district task force and vigilance committee on the prevention of child and bonded labour. The meeting was convened at the Mini Secretariat on Friday. DC Satpal Sharma instructed officials to conduct regular and surprise inspections at locations identified as high-risk.

He specifically listed vulnerable spots that require constant monitoring. These include:

  • Brick kilns
  • Roadside eateries and dhabas
  • Hotels and hospitality units
  • Various industrial establishments
  • Traffic light intersections

The objective of these frequent checks is to actively identify and curb the menace of child labour. Sharma stressed that the aim is not just periodic action but the complete elimination of this practice.

A Dual Strategy: Law and Awareness

While advocating for strict legal action against those who exploit children, the Deputy Commissioner highlighted a parallel need for societal change. "No child in Panchkula should be forced into labour under any circumstances," he asserted during the meeting.

He clarified that the administration's strategy rests on two pillars. The first is unwavering enforcement of laws with legal penalties for violators. The second, and equally crucial pillar, is sensitizing the community and building public awareness about the evils of child labour and the importance of education.

The Path Forward for Panchkula

The formation of the district task force and vigilance committee signifies a structured, institutional response to the problem. By focusing on both surprise raids at likely hotspots and a broader awareness campaign, the administration hopes to create an environment where child labour becomes socially unacceptable and legally untenable.

This initiative marks a significant step towards safeguarding the childhood and future of Panchkula's young residents. The success of this drive will depend on the sustained coordination between different departments and active cooperation from the public.
