Nagpur University Freezes Admissions in 63 Colleges for 2026-27 Due to Deficiencies
NU Freezes Admissions in 63 Colleges for 2026-27

Nagpur: Admissions have been frozen in a total of 63 errant colleges affiliated to Nagpur University (NU) for the 2026-27 academic session due to deficiencies related to academic audits and affiliation requirements.

The university recently released a more than 300-page affiliation document, granting continuation of affiliation to 368 colleges across Nagpur, Wardha, Bhandara and Gondia districts. The notification also identified institutions where admissions will remain suspended until compliance issues are resolved.

Categories of Colleges Facing Admission Freeze

The 63 colleges facing an admission freeze include 11 colleges in the "not recommended" category for continuation of affiliation for 2026-27. These are Dr Panjabrao Deshmukh Arts and Commerce Evening College, Saibaba Arts and Science College, Millennium Arts, Commerce and Science College, and several other institutions in Nagpur and Bhandara districts.

Another 20 colleges failed to submit proposals for the academic audit required for continuation of affiliation for the 2026-27 session. The list includes institutions offering programmes in management, engineering, arts, commerce, science and teacher education across Nagpur, Bhandara, Gondia and Wardha districts.

Also, 32 colleges not submitting academic audit proposals for the 2025-26 session have also been barred from admitting students. These include colleges of pharmacy, education, management, mass communication, and special education.

Criticism Over Document Organization

While the affiliation list has been welcomed for bringing clarity ahead of the admission season, the NU college section has come under criticism over the way the information has been presented. The document runs to more than 300 pages and lists the affiliated colleges and courses largely in alphabetical order.

Faculty members said the information could have been organised more effectively by faculty, stream or course-wise categories. Such an arrangement, they argue, would have enabled students and parents to compare available options more easily and make informed admission decisions. Instead, students may have to sift through hundreds of pages to locate colleges offering specific programmes.

Advice for Students

University officials have advised students to verify the affiliation status of institutions before seeking admission and ensure that the college and course selected have received approval for the 2026-27 academic session.
