Noida's 420-Meter AC Skywalk to Connect Aqua and Blue Metro Lines Opens Feb 1
Noida residents and commuters finally get some good news. The long-awaited 420-meter skywalk will open on February 1. This skywalk connects the Noida Metro Rail Corporation's Aqua Line at Sector 51 with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation's Blue Line at Sector 52.
Project Details and Features
The L-shaped skywalk comes with modern amenities. It is fully air-conditioned for passenger comfort. A travelator or moving walkway is installed to help people cover the distance easily. Officials designed this structure to ease passenger movement between the two metro networks.
Civil and electrical works are now in their final stages. An NMRC official expressed confidence about the inauguration date. "The project is almost complete. We are hopeful of inaugurating it on Feb 1," the official stated on Monday.
Construction Timeline and Delays
Construction of this skywalk began in March 2023. Authorities initially scheduled completion within one year. However, the project faced multiple delays over nearly three years.
Work suspensions during winter months caused significant setbacks. The Commission for Air Quality Management imposed construction restrictions under GRAP to curb pollution. These restrictions halted progress repeatedly.
Subsequent design modifications also slowed the construction pace. These changes extended the timeline beyond original estimates.
Commuters' Struggle Without the Skywalk
In the absence of this dedicated walkway, commuters faced daily difficulties. People traveling between Greater Noida and Delhi had to walk between the two stations. They used a narrow footpath that presented multiple challenges.
Heavy encroachment by roadside vendors reduced available walking space. Vendors sold various items including chaat, pani puri, fruits, books and mobile accessories. Parked auto-rickshaws further narrowed the passage.
A temporary covered walkway previously connected the stations. Authorities dismantled this structure to facilitate skywalk construction. This left commuters exposed to traffic hazards and weather conditions.
Commuters Share Their Experiences
Rakesh Kumar, a Sector 30 resident, commutes daily to his college in Knowledge Park, Greater Noida. He described the interchange as particularly difficult. "The footpath is too narrow for people moving in both directions. Vendors occupy much of the space," he explained.
Many commuters echoed similar concerns about safety and convenience. The cramped conditions made daily travel stressful for regular users.
Expected Benefits and Ridership Data
NMRC data reveals significant metro usage in the area. The Aqua Line recorded an average daily ridership of around 65,739 passengers in December 2025. This substantial number highlights the need for improved connectivity.
Officials expect the new skywalk to deliver multiple benefits:
- Significantly reduce congestion around the stations
- Improve safety for all commuters
- Make interchanges smooth and efficient
- Provide comfortable, weather-protected passage
- Encourage more people to use public transport
The February 1 opening marks the end of a long wait for Noida's metro commuters. This infrastructure project promises to transform the daily travel experience for thousands of people.
