NMC to Launch Citywide Cleanliness Drive in Parks on Monday

The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) will undertake a citywide cleanliness drive in public parks on Monday as part of its Environment Conservation Fortnight. The initiative aims to improve the condition of parks and encourage greater public participation in maintaining community spaces.

Focus on Park Improvement

Civic officials said several parks have been affected by littering, damaged infrastructure, and inadequate upkeep, necessitating focused clean-up efforts. The campaign is being conducted under the guidance of mayor Neeta Thakre and municipal commissioner Vipin Itankar.

Community Involvement

Residents, environmental groups, NGOs, senior citizens, youth organisations, and students have been invited to join the drive. Appealing for widespread participation, Thakre urged citizens to take collective responsibility for preserving parks and ensuring they remain clean and welcoming for all.

The cleanliness drive is a key component of the Environment Conservation Fortnight, which seeks to promote sustainable practices and enhance green spaces across the city. Officials emphasized that regular maintenance and community engagement are essential to prevent future deterioration of public parks.

Participants are expected to assist in removing litter, repairing benches and pathways, and planting new saplings where needed. The NMC has also arranged for waste segregation and disposal facilities to ensure the collected waste is processed responsibly.

Thakre highlighted that well-maintained parks contribute to better physical and mental health for citizens, and urged everyone to volunteer their time. The drive will serve as a model for future collaborative efforts between the municipality and the community.
