NCR Achieves 100% Fire Safety Coverage in AC Coaches, Sets National Benchmark
The North Central Railway (NCR) has accomplished a remarkable feat in railway safety by becoming the first railway zone in India to achieve complete installation of fire and smoke detection systems across all its air-conditioned coaches. This initiative establishes a new national record, underscoring NCR's leadership in adopting advanced safety technologies to protect passengers.
Comprehensive Safety Upgrade Across 730 AC Coaches
All 730 AC coaches under the NCR jurisdiction are now equipped with state-of-the-art fire and smoke detection systems. This comprehensive upgrade transforms rail journeys into significantly safer experiences, providing a critical safety shield against fire-related incidents. The systems are meticulously designed to prevent and control potential emergencies, ensuring rapid response mechanisms are in place.
How the Advanced Detection System Operates
The fire and smoke detection mechanism features smoke detectors installed on the ceilings of AC coaches, capable of sensing even the slightest traces of smoke. These detectors are integrated into a network of pipelines that span the entire length of each coach. Upon detecting smoke, the system automatically activates motors to address the situation. In more severe conditions, it not only triggers alarms to alert passengers and railway staff but can also initiate an automatic emergency brake application to mitigate further risks.
Three-Year Journey to Full Implementation
The ambitious project to install these safety systems commenced nearly three years ago, with an initial focus on premium trains. Early adopters included the Prayagraj Express and Humsafar Express, which served as pilot models for the technology. Subsequently, the coverage expanded to encompass several other crucial services, such as:
- Prayagraj–Subedarganj–Meerut City Sangam Express
- Kanpur Shatabdi
- Prayagraj–Lalgarh Express
- Subedarganj–Udhampur Express
Official Confirmation and Future Implications
Amit Malviya, Senior Public Relations Officer of NCR, confirmed that fire and smoke detection systems are now operational in all AC coaches and power cars across the zone. This achievement highlights NCR's unwavering commitment to maximizing passenger safety through technological innovation. By setting this national precedent, NCR not only enhances its own safety protocols but also inspires other railway zones to follow suit, potentially revolutionizing train safety standards across India.
