Nashik Municipal Commissioner Issues Strict Deadline for Pre-Kumbh Road Works
In a decisive move to accelerate infrastructure development ahead of the 2027 Simhastha Kumbh Mela, Nashik Municipal Commissioner Manisha Khatri has issued a firm directive to all civic departments, the smart city corporation, and concerned utility agencies. The commissioner has mandated that all ongoing digging works on nineteen major roads must be completed by the end of February this year.
Strategic Road Upgradation for Mega Pilgrimage Event
These nineteen roads represent priority stretches identified for comprehensive upgradation in preparation for the massive Simhastha Kumbh Mela scheduled to take place in 2027. The civic administration is implementing a phased approach to ensure all underground utility-related activities are finalized before large-scale road construction commences in March.
The Nashik–Trimbakeshwar Kumbh Mela Authority has approved the development of twenty-nine major roads at an estimated cost of Rs 1,270 crore. Among these, nineteen roads have been prioritized for the first phase of development, with work set to begin in March this year. The authority has established a comprehensive deadline of March 2027 for the completion of all twenty-nine road projects.
Comprehensive Infrastructure Development Plan
The approved road network includes critical stretches that form integral parts of the city's inner, middle, and outer ring roads. Additionally, key routes in the Panchavati, Nashik Road, and Nashik East divisions have been incorporated into this ambitious development plan.
According to Nashik Municipal Corporation officials, Commissioner Khatri has specifically instructed all departments to expedite underground utility works. This comprehensive infrastructure development includes:
- Laying new water pipelines and sewer lines
- Installing electric and optical fibre cables
- Establishing piped natural gas (PNG) infrastructure
Strict Regulations to Ensure Project Efficiency
The municipal commissioner has established clear guidelines to prevent project delays and ensure efficient execution. Once roadwork begins in March, no further digging will be permitted on these nineteen designated roads. This strategic decision aims to eliminate repeated excavation activities that typically disrupt traffic and delay completion timelines.
The roads selected for this development project hold particular significance as they connect several national highways and major transportation corridors. These routes are expected to play a crucial role in managing the substantial traffic influx anticipated during the Kumbh Mela, when Nashik will witness an extraordinary convergence of pilgrims from across the country.
Preparations for the 2027 Simhastha Kumbh Mela
The upcoming Simhastha Kumbh Mela represents one of the largest religious gatherings in the world, scheduled for 2027. With clearly defined deadlines now established, the Nashik Municipal Corporation is preparing to initiate comprehensive road development works in the coming weeks.
The administration's primary objective is to ensure that all major mobility corridors are fully operational and upgraded well before the peak period of the Kumbh Mela. This proactive approach demonstrates the civic body's commitment to creating robust infrastructure capable of supporting the massive logistical demands of this historic religious event.
