Nashik Municipal Corporation to Launch Pay-and-Park System at 28 Sites by March
The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) is gearing up to implement its long-awaited pay-and-park project at 28 strategic locations across the city by late February or early March. This initiative aims to alleviate traffic congestion and regulate haphazard roadside parking that has plagued Nashik's commercial areas for years.
Project Regains Momentum After Election Delays
After facing delays due to the civic election code of conduct, the project has now regained significant momentum. The civic administration is scheduled to open bids from five private agencies early next week, with all five bidders confirmed as eligible and competing to operate the parking management system.
Senior NMC officials have identified the proposed parking sites in high-density commercial zones of Nashik West division, where unregulated parking has been a persistent problem affecting both traffic flow and pedestrian safety.
Phased Implementation Strategy
Additional Municipal Commissioner Pradeep Chaudhari outlined the corporation's approach, stating, "Private operators will handle the day-to-day management at these 28 locations. Once this first phase becomes fully operational, we plan to initiate tenders for additional parking sites within the next fortnight."
He emphasized that this phased implementation is designed to establish a comprehensive, city-wide structured parking management system that can be scaled effectively based on initial results and community feedback.
Affordable Parking Tariffs Finalized
The civic body has finalized user charges that balance affordability with discouraging long-duration parking in crowded areas. For two-wheelers, the rate will be Rs 10 for the first two hours and Rs 20 for parking between two and six hours. Three-wheelers and four-wheelers will be charged Rs 20 and Rs 40 respectively for the same duration slabs.
Officials explained that these carefully calibrated rates aim to make the system accessible to daily users while encouraging turnover in high-demand parking spots.
Strict Enforcement Measures Planned
To ensure the system's effectiveness, NMC will implement strict no-parking restrictions within a 150-200 metre radius of each designated pay-and-park zone. Vehicles found in violation will face immediate towing and substantial penalties.
The penalty structure includes Rs 600 for two- and three-wheelers, Rs 725 for cars and jeeps, and between Rs 1,100 and Rs 2,000 for heavy passenger vehicles. These measures are specifically designed to prevent spillover parking and improve compliance across Nashik's busiest corridors.
This comprehensive parking management initiative represents a significant step toward modernizing Nashik's urban infrastructure and addressing long-standing mobility challenges in the city's commercial heartlands.
