Nagpur Corporator Nidhi Telgote Leads Major Cleanup Drive in Pratap Nagar

In a significant move to tackle a persistent civic issue, newly elected corporator Nidhi Telgote spearheaded a large-scale cleanliness drive in Pratap Nagar, Nagpur, on Sunday. The initiative targeted an open plot opposite Radhe Mangalam Hall, which had become an informal dumping ground, accumulating over 768 kilograms of waste.

Addressing Long-Pending Garbage Accumulation

The site was heavily littered with plastic waste, construction debris, and household garbage, raising serious concerns among local residents about hygiene and public health risks. This garbage pile-up had been a long-pending problem in the area, prominently featuring as a key issue during the recent civic polls in Ward 37.

Community Mobilization and Volunteer Efforts

A total of 63 dedicated volunteers participated actively in the drive, engaging in manual cleaning and systematic segregation of the collected waste. The campaign received crucial support from the Vrikshit Foundation, whose members played a vital role in coordinating the effort and ensuring the proper disposal of all garbage removed from the plot.

Corporator Nidhi Telgote personally monitored the entire operation and interacted with residents on-site. She emphasized that resolving this issue had been a priority on her agenda for some time, and the successful clean-up was the result of sustained follow-up and strong community cooperation.

Emphasis on Collective Responsibility and Civic Duty

Telgote stressed the importance of collective responsibility, stating that the city needs citizens who are willing to take proactive action rather than merely raising complaints. She described the initiative as a meaningful step towards lasting cleanliness, highlighting that such outcomes require effective coordination between civic authorities and residents.

"We must reclaim our public spaces and prevent them from being misused as dumping sites again," Telgote asserted, underlining the need for ongoing vigilance and community involvement to maintain the cleanliness achieved.

Awareness and Sustainable Practices

Beyond mere waste removal, the drive also focused on raising awareness about waste segregation and civic responsibility. Volunteers ensured that the collected waste was properly sorted to facilitate appropriate disposal methods, promoting sustainable waste management practices.

Resident Commitment and Future Initiatives

Residents present at the site pledged to maintain cleanliness and prevent further dumping in the area. They expressed strong willingness to participate in similar community-driven initiatives in the future, showcasing a positive shift towards active civic engagement.

This cleanup drive not only addressed an immediate environmental and health hazard but also set a precedent for community-led action in urban cleanliness, demonstrating how collaborative efforts can transform neglected public spaces into well-maintained areas.
