Mysuru district minister HC Mahadevappa, speaking at the 77th Republic Day celebrations held at Banni Mantap Grounds on Monday, emphasized the Siddaramaiah government's commitment to accelerating Mysuru's urban development. He highlighted that the civic body has been upgraded to the Greater Mysuru City Corporation, a strategic move aimed at fast-tracking the city's growth and ensuring integrated urban planning through the merger of surrounding local bodies.
Republic Day Focus on Planned Urban Expansion
During his address, Mahadevappa underscored that Mysuru is steadily progressing towards becoming Greater Mysuru, with a clear vision for sustainable and organized development. He announced an ambitious target for the city to achieve a "7-star garbage free city" rating in the 2025-26 period, reflecting the administration's dedication to enhancing cleanliness and environmental standards as part of this transformation.
Constitutional Legacy and Government Initiatives
Reflecting on the significance of Republic Day, Mahadevappa paid tribute to national leader BR Ambedkar and the drafting committee, which completed the world's lengthiest written Constitution in 2 years, 11 months, and 18 days. He noted that this Constitution established a robust foundation for a democratic, inclusive, and just nation.
To preserve this constitutional heritage, the Siddaramaiah government has implemented a mandatory practice of reading the Preamble in schools, colleges, and government offices. This initiative is designed to instill constitutional values among citizens, with a particular focus on empowering the youth with a deeper understanding of their rights and responsibilities.
Social Justice and Guarantee Schemes
The minister elaborated on the state government's governance approach, led by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, which places social justice and equality at its core. This is being realized through the implementation of five major guarantee schemes:
- Anna Bhagya: A food security scheme ensuring access to essential grains.
- Gruha Jyothi: An initiative aimed at providing affordable housing and electricity.
- Yuva Nidhi: A program supporting youth employment and skill development.
- Gruha Lakshmi: A scheme focused on women's empowerment and household welfare.
- Shakti: A measure to enhance safety and security for all citizens.
