The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced a significant 24-hour water cut affecting parts of Mumbai and Thane city, scheduled to commence on January 27, 2026. This measure is being implemented to facilitate essential repair and maintenance works on key water infrastructure channels.
Affected Areas and Duration
The water supply disruption will be enforced from 10 am on Tuesday, January 27, until 10 am on Wednesday, January 28. Residents in specific localities are urged to prepare for this temporary inconvenience.

In Mumbai, the water cut will primarily impact the eastern suburbs, covering areas under the S ward and T ward. The S ward includes Bhandup, with a focus on the Khindipada region, encompassing both lower and upper Khindipada. The T ward covers Mulund, with numerous neighborhoods affected.
List of affected areas in T ward (Mulund):

Thane City Impact
In Thane city, the water cut will affect a smaller area, specifically Kisan Nagar, which includes both east and west sections, as well as Bhatwadi. Residents in these pockets should anticipate a complete suspension of water supply during the specified 24-hour period.
Reason for the Water Cut
The BMC has charted plans to undertake critical repair works during this timeframe. In Mulund West, authorities will shift water connections to a 2750 mm diameter Upper Vaitarna main channel. Simultaneously, in Bhandup West, an iron cap will be installed on the 2400 mm-diameter Vaitarna canal located in the Khindipada area.
These infrastructural upgrades are essential for maintaining the long-term reliability and efficiency of the water supply system in the region.
Precautionary Measures and Advisory
In light of the repair works and subsequent water cut, the civic body has issued important advisories to citizens. Residents are strongly encouraged to use water judiciously in the days leading up to and following the disruption. Additionally, it is recommended to boil water before consumption for the next few days as a safety precaution.
The BMC emphasizes that this temporary measure is necessary to ensure the sustainability and improvement of water services. Citizens are requested to cooperate and plan their water usage accordingly to minimize inconvenience.
