MP CM Launches UCC Portal, Seeks Feedback by June 15

Madhya Pradesh has taken a significant step towards implementing the Uniform Civil Code (UCC). Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav officially launched the consultation portal ucc.mp.gov.in, inviting citizens, political parties, and social organizations to share their suggestions on the proposed law.

Deadline for Feedback

The state government has set June 15 as the deadline for public feedback. This initiative aims to gather diverse opinions before finalizing the draft of the UCC.

Committee Formation

Earlier, the government formed a six-member committee headed by retired Supreme Court judge Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai. The committee is tasked with examining the feasibility and implications of implementing the UCC in Madhya Pradesh.

If implemented, Madhya Pradesh would become the fifth state in India to adopt the Uniform Civil Code, following the footsteps of other states that have already taken similar measures. The UCC aims to replace personal laws based on religious scriptures with a common set of laws governing every citizen, covering areas like marriage, divorce, inheritance, and adoption.

The launch of the portal marks a crucial phase in the consultation process, allowing stakeholders to contribute directly to the policy-making process. The government has encouraged all sections of society to participate actively and provide their views on the proposed code.
