MCG Conducts Intensive Training for Sanitary Inspectors Ahead of Swachh Survekshan Survey

In preparation for the upcoming mid-February visit of Swachh Survekshan survey teams, the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) organized a comprehensive one-day capacity-building program on Thursday. This initiative specifically targeted assistant sanitary inspectors, aiming to thoroughly review sanitation preparedness and strengthen field-level implementation across the city.

Training Focus on Core Sanitation Components

The training session was conducted at the prestigious Haryana Institute of Public Administration (HIPA) and concentrated on several critical areas of urban sanitation. Solid waste management formed the cornerstone of the program, with detailed discussions on ward-level sanitation planning and effective grievance redressal mechanisms. According to officials, the primary objective was to enhance on-ground coordination and improve decision-making capabilities among field staff.

Collaborative Effort with NGO Saahas

The program was organized in collaboration with NGO Saahas under its Alag Karo initiative, bringing together senior MCG officials, sanitation supervisors, and subject matter experts. Technical sessions delved deep into the corporation's established sanitation framework, covering aspects such as strategic deployment of manpower and machinery and ensuring compliance with the Solid Waste Management (SWM) Rules, 2016.

Saahas conducted specialized modules focusing on practical implementation strategies, including:

  • Efficient door-to-door waste collection systems
  • Effective waste segregation at source
  • Optimization of material recovery facilities (MRFs)
  • Strategic route planning for waste collection vehicles

Swachh Survekshan Assessment and Digital Integration

Additional sessions were dedicated to the Swachh Survekshan assessment toolkit, emphasizing citizen feedback mechanisms and ward-level performance analysis. The training highlighted the importance of leveraging digital platforms, including:

  1. Sanitation monitoring applications
  2. The SWM portal for tracking waste management
  3. The municipal complaint management system for prompt grievance resolution

MCG Commissioner Pradeep Dahiya emphasized the crucial role assistant sanitary inspectors play in implementing sanitation policies at the ward level. He stated that the training was specifically designed to strengthen accountability and address operational gaps that might hinder effective sanitation management.

Emphasis on Citizen Participation and Infrastructure

Mayor Raj Rani Malhotra highlighted the vital importance of citizen participation in achieving sanitation goals. She noted that public cooperation in source segregation and providing constructive feedback forms a key component of Swachh Survekshan evaluation, making community engagement essential for success.

The discussions extended to maintenance of critical sanitation infrastructure, covering:

  • Public and community toilet facilities
  • Drainage systems to prevent waterlogging
  • Secondary waste collection points
  • Garbage vulnerable points (GVPs) that require special attention

Participants also worked on preparing comprehensive ward-level sanitation action plans tailored to local needs and challenges.

Strengthening Multi-Stakeholder Coordination

Additional Commissioner Ankita Chaudhary stressed the necessity of enhanced coordination with various stakeholders, including resident welfare associations, market bodies, educational institutions, bulk waste generators, and non-governmental organizations. This collaborative approach aims to create a more integrated and effective sanitation ecosystem throughout Gurgaon.

The capacity-building program represents MCG's proactive approach to ensuring Gurgaon performs well in the upcoming Swachh Survekshan survey while improving overall urban cleanliness and waste management standards for residents.
