Gurgaon's MCG Launches Two Model Roads in Sectors 32 & 39 for Rs 13.96 Crore
MCG to build two new model roads in Gurgaon

The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) has officially commenced the process to build two new model roads within the city, a significant step in its urban infrastructure upgrade. The projects, located in Sectors 32 and 39, aim to enhance road safety, pedestrian access, and monsoon resilience for residents.

Details of the Two New Model Road Projects

The first model road will be constructed in Sector 32, covering a stretch of 750 metres from Rajiv Chowk on NH-8 to Medanta. The estimated cost for developing this corridor is pegged at Rs 6.7 crore.

The second project is planned for Sector 39. This road will span a longer distance of 1.05 kilometres, connecting Medanta to Bakhtawar Chowk. The development cost for this stretch is nearly Rs 7.26 crore, making the combined investment for both roads approximately Rs 13.96 crore.

Key Features and Timelines for Completion

Both roads are designed as comprehensive urban corridors. The key infrastructure features will include:

  • Dedicated cycle tracks to promote non-motorised transport.
  • Wide, unobstructed footpaths for pedestrian mobility.
  • Upgraded stormwater drainage systems to tackle waterlogging.
  • New sewer lines and modern street lighting.
  • Integration of green spaces and landscaping as part of the redesign.

MCG Executive Engineer Praveen Kumar stated that the tender process has been initiated. While contractors will be given a standard one-year deadline, the civic body is pushing to complete the work before the onset of the next monsoon season to reduce public inconvenience.

Part of a Larger 100-Km Model Road Network Plan

These two projects are not isolated efforts. In a meeting held on November 20, the MCG's finance and contracts committee approved several other model road projects across Gurgaon. The newly approved roads include:

  • A road from South City-2 Block A to Nirvana Country (Rs 6.09 crore).
  • A stretch from Southern Peripheral Road (SPR) to Bani Square (Rs 6.15 crore).
  • A corridor from Omaxe Mall to Rosewood City (Rs 6.32 crore).

This follows an earlier project launched in August this year—a 1.5-km model road from Sai Chowk to Shriram Chowk in New Palam Vihar, costing Rs 1.5 crore. Officials confirm that all these constructions are integral to MCG's larger vision to develop 100 kilometres of city roads as model roads, setting a new standard for urban infrastructure in the region.

The primary objectives of these model roads are multifaceted: improving traffic flow and safety, ensuring seamless pedestrian and cyclist movement, and crucially, preventing the chronic waterlogging that plagues the city during heavy rains by overhauling the drainage infrastructure.
