MCD Commissioner Sanjeev Khirwar Launches Surprise Inspections to Boost Delhi Sanitation
MCD Commissioner Ramps Up Surprise Sanitation Inspections in Delhi

New Delhi: In a decisive move to enhance urban cleanliness, the newly appointed Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) Commissioner, Sanjeev Khirwar, has swiftly initiated a rigorous inspection regime across the capital. Within days of assuming office on January 22, Khirwar has ramped up field visits and introduced unannounced checks—conducted both by senior officials and himself—aimed at identifying and rectifying gaps in sanitation services while strengthening on-ground monitoring mechanisms.

Focus on Core Sanitation Responsibilities

The civic body, in an official advisory, has reiterated that sanitation remains one of its fundamental duties. This encompasses a comprehensive range of services, including road sweeping, door-to-door garbage collection, transportation and disposal of municipal solid waste, cleaning of drains, removal of garbage-vulnerable points, and the maintenance of community toilets and urinals. While the MCD oversees diverse functions—from managing roads, drains, parks, and crematoriums to providing primary healthcare and education—the order underscores that effective sanitation is crucial for sustaining citywide cleanliness and public health.

Enhanced Monitoring and Accountability Measures

Commissioner Khirwar has directed all additional commissioners, zonal deputy commissioners, and department heads to conduct regular morning inspections of municipal areas and facilities within their jurisdictions. These inspections are designed to assess real-time conditions and ensure prompt action against any lapses. Officials have been instructed to share their weekly inspection plans on an official WhatsApp group, fostering transparency and coordination. Immediate corrective measures must be taken wherever deficiencies or slackness are detected, with the order warning that strict disciplinary action will be imposed on negligent officials.

Personal Involvement and Surprise Checks

Emphasizing hands-on leadership, Khirwar has announced that he will personally undertake field visits and carry out surprise inspections to verify compliance and drive improvements. This proactive approach aims to instill a culture of accountability and efficiency within the MCD, addressing long-standing issues in sanitation management. The initiative reflects a broader effort to optimize municipal services and enhance the quality of life for Delhi's residents, aligning with urban governance priorities.
