Margao Council Nears Pre-Monsoon Works, Forms Emergency Teams

Margao: With the monsoon season approaching, the Margao Municipal Council (MMC) has nearly completed its pre-monsoon preparatory works, chairperson Damodar Shirodkar said, adding that the council will also constitute two emergency response teams to handle distress situations during the rains.

Pre-Monsoon Works Undertaken

The pre-monsoon works undertaken by the MMC include cleaning of drains and gutters, desilting of nullahs, pruning and trimming of overhanging tree branches, identification of low-lying areas prone to flooding, and clearing of illegal encroachments. These measures are aimed at minimizing waterlogging and ensuring smooth drainage during the heavy rainfall.

Emergency Response Teams

Shirodkar stated, “As we do every year, two emergency response teams will be constituted. Each team will have a dedicated vehicle and will be equipped with all the necessary tools to deal with monsoon-related tasks.” The teams will be on standby to respond quickly to any distress calls, such as fallen trees, waterlogging, or other emergencies.

The MMC has also identified critical low-lying areas that are prone to flooding, and special attention will be given to these zones. Citizens are encouraged to report any issues to the council's helpline numbers, which will be operational 24/7 during the monsoon season.
