"The platform is nearly 20 years old and hasn't seen any meaningful upgrade," remarked Ramkrishnan, a Madurai resident traveling to Nagercoil. He highlighted persistent problems such as faulty wiring and non-functional lights that have plagued the facility for years, underscoring the necessity of this project.
Operational Adjustments and Temporary Arrangements
To accommodate the closure, buses bound for key destinations including Tuticorin, Trichy, Virudhunagar, Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari, and select Kerala routes are now halting beside the closed platforms instead of their designated bays. To minimize confusion and ensure smooth operations, space has been earmarked near Platform 6 for these temporary halts. Additionally, temporary spaces have been allocated to shop owners affected by the renovation, with assurances that their shops will be returned upon completion of the work.

A senior corporation official provided details on the project timeline, stating that the renovation of Platforms 7 and 8 is expected to be completed by the second week of March. The overall facelift project will take approximately eight months and will encompass a range of upgrades, including modernized lighting systems, upgraded electrical wiring, and thorough maintenance of bus bays.
