Ludhiana Civic Leaders Launch Plan to Transform Ambedkar Bhawan into Community Hub
Ludhiana's Ambedkar Bhawan to Get Major Social Service Upgrade

Civic authorities in Ludhiana have embarked on a significant mission to revamp the Dr B R Ambedkar Bhawan, aiming to establish it as a leading center for community welfare and social support. The initiative specifically targets improving facilities and services for the city's underprivileged residents.

Committee Holds Inaugural Meeting

The newly constituted maintenance committee held its first official meeting on Wednesday at the Municipal Corporation's Zone A office. The session was chaired by Ludhiana North MLA Madan Lal Bagga and co-led by Mayor Inderjit Kaur. This marks the start of a coordinated drive to modernize the facility situated near the Jalandhar Bypass.

The primary goal of the committee is to upgrade the existing infrastructure and identify new services that cater to the needs of the lower strata of society. In a joint statement, Mayor Inderjit Kaur and MLA Bagga emphasized the project's core objective. They stated that the focus is on uplifting the underprivileged and ensuring every resident has access to high-quality facilities. They described the vision as creating more than just a maintained building, but a hub that facilitates overall community growth and social mobility.

Broad-Based Governance and Oversight

The committee brings together a wide coalition of local leaders and experts to steer the project. Its composition includes:

  • Executive Leadership: Senior Deputy Mayor Rakesh Prashar and Deputy Mayor Prince Johar.
  • Legal and Civic Experts: Advocate R L Suman, CSO Ashwani Sahota, and several local councillors.
  • Community Representatives: A 20-member delegation featuring Surinder Atwal, Harjinder Singh Bali, and Gagan Chitkara.

Next Steps Include Public Feedback

To ensure the upgrades align with the genuine needs of the community, the committee has announced the implementation of a public feedback mechanism. Regular monthly meetings have been scheduled to monitor progress and actively incorporate suggestions from local residents.

Officials confirmed that technical staff from the civic body have already commenced work, starting with an assessment of the site for immediate structural repairs. This proactive approach underscores the commitment to transforming the Bhawan into a premier community resource dedicated to social welfare.
