Lucknow Municipal Commissioner Takes Swift Action on Chronic Waterlogging Issue
In a significant development for the residents of Gudamba Bagiya Colony on Kursi Road in Lucknow, Municipal Commissioner Gaurav Kumar has issued urgent directives to tackle the persistent waterlogging problem that has plagued the area for an extended period. This move is expected to bring much-needed relief to approximately 2,500 individuals who have been grappling with severe drainage issues.
Background of the Drainage Crisis
The colony, which comprises over 70 houses, has been confronting serious drainage challenges for a considerable time. Residents have long reported that rainwater and wastewater previously flowed out through a nearby vacant plot, providing a natural outlet for excess water. However, this situation took a turn for the worse when the Sports College administration constructed a wall adjacent to that plot, effectively blocking the natural drainage pathway.
As a direct consequence of this obstruction, water began accumulating within the colony premises. This accumulation has not only disrupted daily movement and sanitation but has also raised significant health risks for the inhabitants. The problem intensifies during the rainy season, exacerbating the difficulties faced by the local community.
Resident Concerns and Commissioner's Response
During a recent site inspection, local residents detailed the extent of the waterlogging issue, explaining how it worsens with seasonal rains and how even routine household water lacks a proper exit route. Taking serious note of these grievances, Municipal Commissioner Gaurav Kumar has taken proactive steps to address the crisis.
Commissioner Kumar has specifically directed Zone-7 Executive Engineer Sanjay Pandey to coordinate closely with the Jalkal Department. The primary objective is to ensure temporary drainage arrangements are implemented promptly to remove the accumulated water and mitigate the immediate risks.
This intervention marks a crucial step towards resolving a long-pending problem that has affected the quality of life for thousands of Lucknow residents. The municipal authorities are now focused on finding sustainable solutions to prevent future occurrences of such waterlogging incidents in Gudamba Bagiya Colony.
