Labour Ministry Heatwave Advisory: Rescheduled Hours, Rest Areas

The Ministry of Labour and Employment has rolled out a comprehensive advisory on heatwave protection for workers, calling on states and union territories to issue immediate directions to employers, occupiers, industries, and construction companies for implementation of safety measures.

Key Measures Recommended

The advisory includes rescheduling working hours to avoid peak heat times, providing adequate rest areas with shade and water, and ensuring access to cool drinking water at workplaces. Employers are urged to adjust work schedules, especially for outdoor and manual laborers, to reduce heat exposure.

Implementation Directives

States and UTs have been asked to enforce these measures promptly. The ministry emphasized the need for regular health checks and awareness programs on heatstroke prevention. Industries and construction sites must also arrange for first-aid facilities and emergency response plans.
