Kolkata: Residents of Beleghata and Tiljala, who have received civic demolition notices for their homes of a decade, on Wednesday queued up at the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) for a hearing before the special hearing officer. The Beleghata properties were promoted or owned by local strongman Raju Naskar.
Hearing Details
The notice directed Beleghata locals to meet KMC officials with their property deeds and stamp papers within 48 hours. After a day-long hearing, the residents were asked to wait for further communication. "We came to the hearing, hoping for a demolition exemption," said a resident.
KMC Official Statement
A KMC official stated, "To do justice to actual beneficiaries, we need to see more papers. We may send demolition notices for illegal structures." The official emphasized that the process aims to identify genuine property owners and take action against unauthorized constructions.
Residents expressed anxiety over their homes, many of which have been their residence for over ten years. The hearing provided a platform for them to present their documents and plead their case. However, the final decision remains pending as KMC reviews additional paperwork.
This development highlights the ongoing efforts by the civic body to address illegal constructions in the city. Residents are advised to stay alert for further communication from the KMC regarding the status of their properties.
