Patna-Ara Road Closure for 7 Months: Diversion Routes & School Timings
Key Patna-Ara road shut for over 7 months from Dec 18

Commuters who regularly travel between Patna and Ara in Bhojpur district are set to face significant disruptions for more than half a year. Authorities have announced a major road closure to facilitate the construction of an elevated corridor by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).

Road Closure Dates and Affected Stretch

The vital road section between Shivala Chowk and Kanhauli in the Danapur sub-division will be completely shut for all vehicles from December 18 until July 15. This prolonged closure, spanning over seven months, is deemed essential for the construction work on this key highway corridor. A district official emphasized that the project is crucial for long-term infrastructure improvement.

Special Arrangements for School Traffic and Announced Diversions

In a move to reduce hardship for students, the administration has made special provisions. Vehicles transporting children to schools and colleges located along the affected stretch will be permitted to operate only during specific time windows. These are set for 7:30 AM to 8:30 AM and again from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Officials have indicated that these timings may be revised later if school schedules change.

For general traffic, particularly vehicles moving from Ara towards Patna, the Danapur sub-divisional officer's office has released a detailed traffic plan with multiple diversion routes:

  • Via Bihta Chowk to Maner, then proceeding through Danapur Cantt towards Patna.
  • Via Bihta Chowk to Maner, then continuing through Sherpur, Chhitnawan, Usri Bazaar, and Shivala to enter the city.
  • From Bihta Chowk to Kanhauli at Sarmera Mor, then moving through Naubatpur to reach AIIMS-Patna Square.
  • A route branching from Naubatpur Bazaar towards Shivala for entry into Patna.

Long-Term Gain for Short-Term Pain

The official stated that while the diversion plan aims to ensure a smooth traffic flow, minor adjustments may be made under special circumstances. This disruption is part of the larger Danapur-Bihta elevated road project, which promises to significantly improve regional connectivity once completed. The current traffic plans are designed to distribute vehicular movement evenly and prevent severe bottlenecks on alternative roads during the extended construction period.

Commuters are strongly advised to plan their journeys in advance, consider the added travel time, and follow the official diversion signs to avoid congestion.
