Kerala's Ease of Doing Business Boosted by Government Initiatives, Say Ministers
Kerala's Ease of Doing Business Boosted by Government Efforts

Kerala has surged to the forefront of the ease of doing business index, thanks to collective efforts and a healthy sense of competition among government departments. Local self-government and excise minister M B Rajesh made this announcement in Kochi on Saturday.

Minister Rajesh Highlights Progress in Governance

Rajesh spoke at a seminar titled 'Practical Implementation and Governance of Ease of Doing Business at the Grassroots Level'. He expressed great pride in resolving most suggestions and issues previously raised about necessary changes in local bodies.

Key initiatives include the introduction of applications like K-SMART and K-SWIFT. These tools aim to eliminate delays in obtaining licenses. Comprehensive amendments to municipal and building construction rules have also been implemented to further support industries.

The minister emphasized the government's goal. It seeks to leverage progress in ease of doing business to ultimately make Kerala a leader in ease of living.

Electricity Minister Krishnankutty Announces Support for Small-Scale Industries

Meanwhile, electricity minister K Krishnankutty promised strong government support for small-scale industries operating at the household level. He revealed a significant decision to move nano-household industries out of the industrial tariff category.

These industries will now fall under the domestic tariff bracket. This change is expected to reduce costs and encourage growth.

Krishnankutty noted that the state government has created an industry-friendly environment. Uninterrupted power supply to the sector has been ensured for the past decade.

"It is no small achievement that there has been no power cut or load shedding for the past 10 years," he said.

The government provides a 10% discount on electricity rates for industrial units during daytime usage. Deliberations are ongoing about extending these concessions to non-peak hours as well.

These combined efforts from multiple departments showcase Kerala's commitment to improving business conditions. The focus remains on practical solutions and grassroots implementation.
