Kanpur District Magistrate Issues Strict Aadhaar Processing Directives
In a significant move to streamline Aadhaar services, District Magistrate and District Election Officer Jitendra Pratap Singh has mandated that all Aadhaar applications for individuals above 18 years of age must be processed within a maximum of 45 days. This directive was issued during a district-level Aadhaar monitoring committee meeting held in Kanpur on Friday, aiming to enhance efficiency and reduce backlogs in the system.
Focus on Child Aadhaar Enrollment for School Admissions
The meeting placed special emphasis on Aadhaar enrollment for children, particularly those aged 0-5 years. Singh highlighted that with the new academic session commencing in April, Aadhaar cards will be essential for school admissions. He urged officials to prioritize child Aadhaar saturation to ensure seamless enrollment processes. Additionally, pending cases in the 5-7 years (MBU-1) and 15-17 years (MBU-2) age groups were thoroughly reviewed, with instructions to expedite their resolution.
Review of Aadhaar Statistics and Infrastructure
Officials reported that Kanpur district currently has 241 active Aadhaar kits. Since January 2026, significant progress has been made, with 9,093 new Aadhaar cards created and 69,618 cards updated. The UIDAI ASK Centres led the efforts, generating 2,189 new Aadhaars and updating 19,716, while India Post Payment Bank contributed 1,253 new Aadhaars and 3,781 updates through its 67 kits. Singh directed that all inactive Aadhaar kits under the Registrar be activated immediately to accelerate enrollment and update work.
Priority for Centenarians and Verification Cases
A critical focus was placed on resolving pending verification cases for centenarians aged 100 years or older. The District Magistrate ordered that these cases be addressed with the highest priority and resolved immediately via the Aadhaar Verification Portal. This measure aims to ensure that elderly citizens face no delays in accessing essential services linked to their Aadhaar cards.
Expansion to Family ID and Government Projects
Beyond Aadhaar, the meeting also covered broader administrative initiatives. Singh instructed that special camps be established in all zonal offices of the municipal corporation to create Family IDs, with a target to ensure all government employees have their Family IDs made. He emphasized the need for timely and quality completion of projects listed on the CMIS portal and reviewed schemes on the CM dashboard, directing concerned departments to monitor progress regularly.
The meeting was attended by key officials including Chief Development Officer Deeksha Jain, the Basic Education Officer, and representatives from various departments, underscoring a collaborative approach to improving public service delivery in Kanpur.
