Kanpur DM Inspects Ghats for Makar Sankranti Preparations

Kanpur District Magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh conducted a thorough inspection of ghats in the city on Tuesday. He focused specifically on preparations for the upcoming Makar Sankranti festival. The festival will now be observed on January 15 this year. The state government made this decision after consulting with pundits and considering their advice.

Detailed Inspection at Sarsaiya Ghat

Singh visited Sarsaiya Ghat personally to review all arrangements. He examined facilities for the convenience, safety, and cleanliness of devotees. The district magistrate paid special attention to practical needs during his on-site assessment.

Key Instructions for Devotee Safety

Jitendra Pratap Singh issued several important directives to officials. He emphasized keeping all access roads leading to the ghats completely free from encroachments. The DM specifically ordered the widening and cleaning of paths from ghat steps to bathing areas.

Safety measures received particular focus. Singh instructed officials to install an indicator system using iron pipes and ropes at deep river spots. This system will prevent devotees from going beyond safe bathing limits. The district magistrate also ordered immediate removal of bushes and moss from ghat mounds.

Enhanced Facilities for Women Devotees

The district magistrate considered women's convenience during his inspection. He directed the construction of a temporary changing room at Sarsaiya Ghat. This facility will provide privacy and comfort for female visitors during the festival.

Cleanliness and Crowd Management

Sanitation arrangements formed another crucial part of the preparations. Singh ordered deployment of sanitation workers every fifty meters along the ghats. He instructed officials to establish fixed shift duties for these workers. The zonal sanitation officer received specific directions to ensure proper worker deployment.

The DM also directed the Sarsaiya Ghat committee to install clear indicator boards. These boards will help devotees navigate the area safely and efficiently during the festival celebrations.

Jitendra Pratap Singh's comprehensive inspection covered all aspects of festival preparations. His directives aim to create a safe, clean, and organized environment for Makar Sankranti observances in Kanpur.
